That's right, people - in many ways, it feels like CES 2017 just yesterday but that's not how it works for years.
With CES 2018 now in full swing, we are treated with all kinds of strange, beautiful, and really bad examples of what happens when you give designers and engineers too much time to do whatever they like.
We love CES time here at RP! As always, too much to discuss in detail and, to be completely honest with you, not all of it deserves attention. However, we do not like the idea that you are missing some of the gems that are being announced this time, so here you will find a collection of announcements - all containing bite-sized pieces. Let's get started, should we?
Intel Chips With Radeon Graphics
This is not a good few weeks for chipmakers Intel and AMD thanks to the overall vulnerability situation of the chip, but at CES, all eyes are on the first Core i5 and Core i7 chips that incorporate Radeon graphics. The couple announced their intention to work together to deliver Intel CPUs with AMD graphics processing built right behind in November, and now, the first chip out of the unexpected alliance has been announced. This means two Intel Core i5 and i7 chips are supported by separate AMD Radeon RX Vega M GPUs, both designed for use on laptop computers where power consumption and heat generation are big deals.
DJI Osmo Mobile 2, Ronin-S
Famous for making drones and cameras, DJI has announced several camera stabilizers, with Osmo Mobile 2 and Ronin-S on display. The former is designed for smartphones while the latter has a DSLR in mind, both reducing vibration and allowing users to play smooth video without the need for large rigs.
LG ThinQ Fridge
The idea of a refrigerator with built-in screens is nothing new and they have been a staple of CES for a while now. 2018 is no different, with LG announcing ThinQ thin fridge with 29-inch transparent touch screen slapped on the front. The screen is running webOS, so there's something for the geek amongst us all to smile there. There is also support for Alexa Amazon, because everything must support the woman in a tube lately. With all these miracles, you can tag items with virtual stickers with an expired food expiration date, allowing automatic reminders to be offered. Unfortunately, LG does not say when it will be available, or at what cost.
Ring, the people who brought us are probably the most interesting doorbell ever, again this time announcing a new line of home security kits. There's a battery-powered Cam Stick Up which is a weatherproof camera designed to work inside or outside, complete with two-way audio and 1080p camera. There is also something called the Beam Ring which amounts to clever light with motion sensors mounted inside it, perfect for street lighting at night. Oh, and there's a professionally monitored home security system for those who want to keep their homes safe, but do not mind the hardware price of $ 199 and then the $ 10 / month subscription fee.
Anker Roav Viva
We love Anker, we have said that many times and now the accessory maker has announced a new plug-in device that will bring Alexa maximum capability to drivers. The $ 49.99 adapter connects to the Bluetooth system in the car and puts Alexa in the car while also giving the user the ability to make and receive calls without hands in a way they did not want before. This is not enough CarPlay or Android Auto, but this small adapter is potentially a great alternative for those who do not have a car that is compatible with such features.
The tile tracker is a great way to stop losing items like car keys and, well, kids, if necessary. The tiles are nice and nice, but is not it nice to have the same functionality built directly into the device? That's what a series of new partnership promises, with companies like Bose announcing that their 2018 accessories will be equipped with Tile. In the case of Bose, we can expect SoundSport Wireless and QuietControl 30 headphones to ship this spring. The Samsonite baggage company will also work with San Jose International airport, among other things, to allow Tile to prevent luggage during the trip.
